Sunday was another group ride and it felt great to have a crowd of 5 riders. We met at my house at 7:30 a.m. and rolled due north with the winds to our backs. Full photos of the rare event can be found at Rich's Blog::::::>>>>

On my part I am sorting out my camera issue. I purchased a Canon G-11 and it is a great camera. It is a bit bulkier and I am not sure whether it will be a good "carry-on" for riding pictures. Time will tell. Training for the "Spring Monster" is going really well. I have cut out any alcohol intake since it was messing with my Asthma. I feel much better healthwise. We will be planning on scheduling these Slender Fungus rides on:
Sundays @ 7:30 a.m.
wednesdays @ 8:30 p.m.
Sunday rides will include long distance on varied terrain. They might include Rain, Sleet, Freezing temperatures, Snow, Gravel, Dirt and a whole lot of wind. Anything goes. We advise participants to prepare accordingly. Minimum requirement for bicycle is a cyclocross steed with stout wheels and tires. Rider should be equipped with lots of warm clothing, booties, gloves, balaclava, tights, warm jacket. Rider should also bring waterbottles with hydration such as Zym, Nuun, Heed or Perpetuem. A camelbak with clear water is also advised. Extra clothing, rain jacket, money, debit card, solid food ( sandwiches, fruit, candy) will get you out and back home. Everyone should have a seatbag with the following: Two innertubes, patchkit, tires levers, multitool, tire boot, extra link of chain, while co2 cartridges are great in the summer we suggest a good pump in the winter. Co2's freeze in the cold and dampness.
Wednesday rides will include the Great Western trail. We will be riding in pitch black. Distance will be aproximate 40 miles to St. Charlies and back. Most of the trail is limestone and some blacktop. If the limestone is wet is gets soft so use of a cyclocross bike is advisable. A 29er is also a good option. A clipon fender helps to keep you clean and also protects the person behind you.
Lights are of utmost importance. We suggest:
Dinottelighting
Nite Rider
Light and motion
Shimano Generator Hubs
Schmidt Sohne Generator Hubs
Princeton Tec Eos or their excellent Headlamps
Planet bike superflash is a great rear one.
Again 40 miles worth of food and hydration. Lots of warm clothing because it is damp out in the fields. Wool is your best friend while cotton is your worst enemy. Temps around the town areas of Sycamore and Dekalb are warmer then when you get out in the fields. On the wednesday rides and also on Sundays it is important to arrive on time so we can
depart on time. Waiting around in the cold is not cool.
Next ride is tomorrow November 4th at the trailhead of the Great Western Trail @ 8:30 p.m. It should take us 3 hours to complete the ride. Trailhead is located at the intersection of Rte 64, Old state rd and basically Airport Rd also. It is across from the new Kawasaki Dealer.
